With every day turn, turn turn...

I didn't plan to make my first Duathlon in almost a year and a half the European Powerman Champs but after a puncture at the British nationals it kind of ended up that way. And Jaysis no amount of quality training prepares you for powerman racing....

European Powerman Champs - Horst aan de maas, Holland - 25 Apr 2010

I didnt feel quite right all last week then I just didnt really fire from the start. I wasn't quite sleeping right, had little appetite and the lilttle indicators that I was race ready just weren't there.
It's a shame because I have good run form and even better bike form but it seemed like I lacked the guts for the fight on the day and never really found my top gear especially on the bike where I was pretty lame.

But this was my first Duathlon in 17 months so it's good to be back racing and 18th in the European Powerman Championships sounds a lot better than it feels today. Looking back over previous results I certainly did much better than a lot of top guys have done in their first Powerman race and I learned a huge amount for the future.

Big respect to Matt Moorhouse and Lee Piercy who both had outstanding results in Horst. Matt came third and Lee was seventh showing how much the bar has been raised in UK duathlon and keeping me motivated through the hardest sessions.

I loved the Powerman experience though. It was amazing to be at an event that was promoted and organsised by people who love duathlon first and foremost.
