Rad times

I made the long trip to the far reaches of East Germany to race my second PM race on the notoriously tough PM Germany course of 16km - 64km - 8k. After doing a course recce the day previous, man this was going to be the toughest race I've ever done. If anyone remembers the 'Ballbuster Ultra' idea I was talking about last year? Well this is it but up a ski skislope!

Powerman Germany - Falkenstein 30th May 2010

The plan was to go with the first run pace, get into a quick group and see what happens so coming into T1 in 5th place at the front of the second group only 30 seconds down seemed like a good start.

The bike was super tough with a long 16% ascent straight out of transition and rain, wind and cold temperatures making the day even tougher but I've spent the day at the beach in worse weather back in Donabate as a kid! I held my position for the first lap but after after a mechanical stop I dropped a few places and probably overcooked it trying to make up the ground on the second lap so I came off the bike in 9th place.

I gained a place in T2 and went out on the second run trying to go hard til the turnaround to see how close the guys in front were. I was really pushing it with a good high HR but the legs were pretty beat so I held it together and came home 8th.

Racing at this level is a huge learning experience but I'm improving and I can see how I need to get stronger. Travelling the the GB lads
Lee and Matt who's years of experience is also a big help to me. I have a lot of hard work to do but I'm looking forward to progressing up the results. Tip-top transitions though!

I even had a bit of a podium moment with 1. Matt Moorhouse GBR, 2. Karl Prungraber AUT and 3. David Vaughan IRL in the M30 cat. I've gained more points in the Powerman World Series rankings where I now lie 30th. Infuriatingly though they have me listed as GBR... Fearg!
