Sarroni seems to be the hardest word

What I really needed on the day was a nice fast field, preferably going head to head with some very strong bikers to really push me on the bike where I haven't been doing it in the Du lately. When I saw James Gilfillan warming up I thought that was perfect but he was starting in a later wave so this event became a pure Time Trial for me.

Goodwood Duathlon - 9th May 2010

Ran OK. The first run was way long but I held a steady 3.21 per km. Quickest Split.

My worst ever transition cock-up ever where I broke every rule in the book. I'm very lucky not to have been DQed.

Biked lame. Pulled away from the field but still big losses to Gilfillan. HR kept dropping so I have big concentration issues to sort out. The bike course was surprisingly tough with a 4km climb straight from transition which really kicks up at the end. It was far harder than the Ballbuster bike course so it will be interesting to see how quick guys can ride this course in future. The descent down through the Festival of Speed Hillclimb course was crazy. Wet, rough, windy, off-camber and superquick. I've never done 70kmph across a golf course before!

Second run was much improved from Holland though but a bit lonely. Same pace as first run.

I am in good shape but I'm really underachieving in Duathlons. I know what I need to do though.

Live on the edge of the red.

Must try harder.
