Training through the races....

I've been training hard playing catch up lately so I've added a couple of races to build sharpness without any tapering or rest days in between. A big week with a 5k race on Thurs and a 50 mile TT on Sunday with two big days in between? Super idea!

Anerley BC 50 -G53/50 - 8th Aug 2010

4.15am Alarm
4.30am Eat Breakfast with Mint Chocolate Milkshake instead of milk. I always forget something.
5.30 Arrive at race venue with all the other weirdos

7.05 Start
7.07 Passed my minute man who told me he was going to be last.
8.00 I notice the bike is feeling very soft and squidgey at the back end.
9.02 Finish

It's a PB by 60 seconds exactly at 1.57.26. Not great but I felt pretty good the whole way so I'll nail the next one in Sept. I realised after that I'd incorrectly programmed my computer so it was slightly out. I thought I had been pacing myself for a 1.54-55 but I was getting the wrong distance and speed from it. That's a stupid schoolboy error and I'm kicking myself for it. I also confirmed at the finish that I had a slow pucture on the disc. I went through halfway in 58.08 and I know I put in more effort in the second half so a 1.55 was at least what the effort deserved. Ah well...

Steve Dennis won on the day in a mind-boggling 1.43.45. Or at least thats what he wrote on the results sheet. Check him out writing up his own results... Is that the key to winning??

I really need to get a better time so I can get a later start time with all the fast lads. I haven't been passed by anyone this year in a TT (apart from prebble at hardriders in Feb) and there's nothing like seeing somebody whizz by to kick up your speed. The G53/50 is not flat nor does it lack roundabouts. There was 43 in total to get through!! Luckily the roads were very quiet but that's a whole seasons worth of RBTs on the courses I'm used to.

On the way home I was so sleepy I had to go for a quick nap in the woods...
